Getting Started: Gear

When getting started with video creation, it's better to focus on the hardware you already have. Having a creative mind will always be more beneficial than having the best gear out there.

When getting started with creating videos, it can be tempting to purchase lots of professional gear and believe it will allow you to produce the best videos out there. Possessing lots of gear won’t instantly make you a pro, and sometimes the best way to start is with the basics. A great place to start is with the camera you already have: the phone in your pocket. Smartphones are capable of great videos nowadays when paired with a creative mind and proper planning.

As you progress throughout the different phases of video production, you’ll learn about various pieces of gear that will allow you to produce more complex techniques. Don’t focus on gathering such gear when just starting out. Instead, start with what you have and invest in gear as you improve over time. This will allow you to focus on getting creative with what you have and focus those skills as you improve over time and acquire more gear. Remember to always focus on your creativity and not the limits of your current gear/hardware.
